Thomas Hanke can create a harmonica
that has a beautiful warm sound, is lightly playable, and is suited for
advanced techniques such as overblows and overbends.
Wooden combs are manually flattened, then varnished with high-quality lacquer. This eliminates the potential for warping
and swelling of the wood.
Reed gaps are adjusted specifically for each individual player.
The tolerances between reed slot and reed are minimized.
Dependently on the model, the cover plate will be opened at the bottom
or at the side of the instrument and when desired, chrome plated.
The reeds can be fine-polished (up to the rivet) which will noticeably extend the durability of the reed and helps counter detuning.
This method of assembly makes for a harmonica which plays easier and stays in tune longer. All harps are especially air-tight.
The modifications are done to ensure that bends, overblows and overdraws can be played optimally.
With models like the Marine Band Classic the edges of the reed plates will be polished smooth, which will make the
embrochure more pleasant.
